„BITE Latvija“ continues its fight for the rights of Latvian customers

September 16, 2005

Telecommunications company SIA „Bite Latvija“ after successful launch of commercial services makes further steps in order to defend Latvian customers rights and implement real competition in the market as soon as possible. „Bite Latvija“ has applied to the Public utilities commission of Latvia with the request to interfere into interconnection negotiations with mobile operator LMT and today will send the same request regarding the negotiations with Tele2.

„We are informing the Regulator that LMT and Tele2, in order to delay signing of an interconnection agreement with „Bite Latvija“, use arguments that are against the laws of Latvia. LMT and Tele2 are mistreating their customers by not allowing them to call TOXIC customers“, - Jesper Theill Eriksen, CEO of SIA „Bite Latvija“ said.

According to him, despite the fact that parties agreed on nearly all clauses, LMT does not accept the termination price offered by SIA "Bite Latvija” motivating that price offered is too high. Tele2 is using the same argument. According to Latvian and EU legislation, an operator with significant market power in the interconnect market can not regulate termination tariffs of the other party and delay implementation of interconnection based on price.

“The termination price of SIA "Bite Latvija” is so low that at this point of time it does not even cover the costs for receiving the calls”, - noted J.T.Eriksen. Furthermore, the termination price of "Bite Latvija” was accepted by other operators, which signed the agreements – “Lattelekom”, “Telekom Baltija” (“Triatel”) and „Telekomunikāciju grupa”.

“Bite Latvija” has started commercial services in Latvia on 15th of September.
