“Bite Latvija” initiates signing of interconnection agreement with LMT

September 19, 2005

Telecommunications company SIA “Bite Latvija” today has signed the interconnection agreement with Latvian mobile communications operator LMT. The agreement currently is signed only from “Bite Latvija” side and now the Company will wait for LMT signatures and technical implementation of interconnect. When the agreement is implemented, customers of LMT will be able to call TOXIC customers.

“BITE Latvija” has signed the interconnect agreement accepting the conditions set by LMT. We are concerned about the rights of the customers and want to avoid any delays in the interconnect implementation. „Bite Latvija“ is ready to start interconnect service any time, but we will now have to wait for the signatures of LMT and technical implementation on their part”, - Jesper Theill Eriksen, CEO of “Bite Latvija”, said.

So far, the situation with the Latvian mobile operator Tele2 remains unchanged. „Bite Latvija“ has applied to the Public utilities commission of Latvia with the request to interfere into interconnection negotiations with Tele2. According to Latvian and EU legislation, an operator with significant market power in the interconnect market, such as Tele2, can not regulate termination tariffs of the other party and delay implementation of interconnection based on price.

The agreements with three other telecommunications market participants “Lattelekom”, “Telekom Baltija” (“Triatel”) and „Telekomunikāciju grupa” were signed in July 2005.

“Bite Latvija” won the auction for the UMTS/GSM mobile license in Latvia on March 31st and provides its services to Latvian customers since September 15th. The Company has presented a prepaid card TOXIC, offering the Latvian users of mobile connection new choice of inexpensive, easy to use and modern services.
